Handling Baby Talk Problem

Quite a large number of children face speech children. It implies that even when a kid is growing up he still talks like a baby. Parents often feel stressed about this issue but trust me; this is not an unusual occurrence. Many parents face similar set of problems but with some adequate steps and practice they have managed to solve this problem. Before you begin to take any step remember one thing, you cannot make your child to talk like a big guy overnight. It will take some time and of course, patience.

Have you observed yourself how you talk back to your child when he talks like a baby? If you talk back to him similarly as you used to when he was a baby then you need to stop this habit right away. Because, this way you are encouraging him to continue his baby talk way. You need to check your response and should probably devise a new strategy. You might think of responding to your baby by saying that, “I am not getting what you are saying. You need to convey in big guy words” or something like that. If you keep doing this for few times, child will get the message and may start trying big words after some time.

You can also sit calmly with the kid and tell him that he is now a grown up boy and should start talking like grown up kids do. There could be several such ways to motivate your child and send across your message. After certain duration, child will definitely get what you want to say and will start talking normally. Just be patient and try out ideas and soon results will be there for you to see.

The Learning Baby

Parents often think of new ideas that could come handy for babies to learn in a faster and effective way. The thing to remember here is a baby is learning all the time. In fact, a baby learns much faster than an adult. Using a simple metaphor, a baby’s mind is like a sponge which is always soaking information and knowledge. A baby uses all her five senses, smell, taste, touch, sight and sound. For a baby, everything is new and exciting so she tries to soak up everything. A human being keeps learning all his life but the rate at which baby learns things is truly phenomenal. During his/her initial days after the birth, a baby grows up in everything right from size, width, emotions and intellect.

It is very important for parents to stimulate baby for better and quick learning. Even your innocent loving gestures can do wonder to baby’s learning process. Parents should focus on establishing strong bond with the baby. In the initial stage it can be done by using your facial expressions. Remember, a baby starts identifying you by your face, voice and touch. You can bring your face closer to the baby and act animated. You can smile, talk, read colourful books and even hold one way communication with your baby.

It is imperative for parents not to have any preconceived notions about baby’s learning. A baby keeps learning new things, growing new ideas and skills. It is the job of parents to find out new ideas that will help baby in quick learning. Keep experimenting with new games, new ways and you will come across several wonderful ideas.

360 degree Learning

360 degree learning is an overall learning that nurtures kids. It does not make them robots that memorize, write exams and forget what they were taught. Here, learning is more to do with the overall development of the child.  360 degree learning is based on the theory that an organism functions properly only when he uses all parts of the body. Effectively using smell, sound, sight and touch, your child can learn through all the incidents and the activities that take place in his life. Your child can experience holistic learning right from the time he enters playschool or nursery provided you take the right steps to inculcate this process of learning in his life.

This technique is based on the concept that an organism functions properly only when all parts coordinate and co-operate with each other in their individual functioning. Holistic learning involves through activities like story-telling, playing games, making the kid feel happy about what he learns and aiming at understanding of subjects such that it stays with kids for a long time.

Overall learning and liberal education go hand in hand. Liberal education believes that a child should be allowed to learn what he enjoys the most and he is thus offered subjects that range from a variety of disciplines. He is not restricted to learning math, sciences and social sciences. He learns subjects like guitar, singing, painting, volleyball, poetry and many others. Overall learning facilitates to make kids use all their senses and use a ‘whole body’ approach towards learning.

How to use watercolors

Most of the kids fear this medium simply because it is difficult to make changes or correction once you have put your brush stroke on the canvas. However, practice is what will make you perfect here. Do not get discouraged if you do not get things correct in first few instances. Learn your mistakes and proceed. With the help of following tips, you can start with your water painting right away:

Just mix up a lot of water with water colour paint and with a thick brush, wash your canvas. Another technique is using the tip of your paint brush to dip it slightly in the water and then dipping it in the colour you want to paint in and using strokes to paint on the canvas. This is especially used to paint branches of a tree. Erasing the paint is yet another technique used commonly in water colour painting and this is achieved by using a thick hard brush, dipping it only in water and then slowing applying it to the canvas. Tinting is also another technique that is very easy to do but difficult to control. For example you want your painting to have more yellow in it, to be brighter. What you do is take some very thin yellow paint by using a lot of water, and carefully going over the dried portion of the painting that you wish to tint. However, there is no stopping from inventing your own technique of water colour painting.

Unleash the artist in your kids with pastel crayons

Who will not agree that pastel is yet another great medium of art and is one of the best for kids and beginners? Here are some of the steps which will guide you in your artistic pastel journey:

The first step is to sketch an initial outline onto your paper. Professional artists do this with mechanical graphite pencils. Some artists especially students use a light pastel color for the outline. These outlines are generally done freehand however they depend on the subject that you choose to paint. Now the next step is to start applying some pastel crayons onto the paper. Use soft pastels for easy blending. Now what and how you will colour will depend on your subject but for e.g. if you are coloring sky, then you will start towards dark shades and slowly come down to the light blue shades. Remember to blend the colors at every instance. Blending can be done through your fingers as well.

Detailing needs to be taken care of. Take care while coloring and see to it that they do not smudge in areas where they are not supposed to smudge. Now continue coloring all the objects that are included in your drawing. For example if you are painting a tree care should be taken that while coloring the branch, the colour does not reach the leaves! While drawing objects that require too much detailing, care should be taken that the edges are clean and that the detailing is prominent. Use tip of the colour for detailing.

Remember to be patient and tactful. Do not overuse the colour or blend it too much. Take it step by step and use reference or guidance at points where you are not sure of the next step. Detailing is what is difficult in pastels and hence if you are a patient artist who is very careful with the detailing, things become much easier. Express yourself in pastels and frame your pictures in your room for that little streak of creative satisfaction.

Vaccination in Children

As far as vaccination in children in concerned, there is a serious lack of awareness in spite of the government attempts to popularize this. Vaccination in children is a must because even though antibodies are passed from mother to the unborn child and after birth, mother’s milk continues to provide additional antibodies, this protection is not permanent. Vaccination provides protection against diseases and in the growing years of a child. Hence, vaccination is a must.

Through vaccinations we have been able to prevent a number of diseases. There are certain vaccines that are to be given at birth, namely BCG, oral polio vaccine and hepatitis B. Then at sixth, tenth and fourteenth week, DPT with polio vaccine & hepatitis B need to be given. At the age of nine months, a child should be given a dosage of measles vaccine. What vaccination does is that it injects a weakened microorganism that causes the ailment so that the immune system in our body is stimulated to fend off the weakened microorganism. The immune system also remembers to fight off the organism if it enters the body later.

Vaccination is one of the most effective ways of preventing a disease. Vaccines have known to be ninety percent effective. Most of these vaccines are subsidized by the government and hence is the most economical way of preventing diseases.

Dieting in teens

Today being thin has become a fad. Not only are adults on strict diets, but they are also putting their teens on diet. First and foremost do not put your children on diet without prior consultation with your doctor or dietician. Instead, learn and let your child too learn about the importance of a balanced and a nutritious diet. Encourage some sports into your child’s life and try and be as subtle as possible when you tell your child what to eat and what not to eat. Do not put dietary restrictions at the first go. This might be seen as a compulsion and your rebellious teen may not want to follow that.

Do not talk about your child’s overweight problems and dietary restrictions in front of relatives and friends. Do not make a big deal about the issue and let your child learn and understand why he should avoid oily fatty foods. It is natural that your teenager might get tempted to eat outside food that may not be healthy. It is ok to let your child indulge in the same once in a while. Once your child realizes that he needs to balance his meal he or she will automatically not be tempted to eat oily and fatty foods.

Don’t give keep too many fried munching items at home. It is not fair to expect your child to stay away from these when you and the rest of your family are enjoying it. You will slowly and subtly see the changes in your teen. The key here is to be patient and not expect any quick results. Also, you child may fall once, two times but he will succeed the third time.
