Because of the familiarity later, the kids learn faster.

apprehensions of a child

When my daughter was asked to perform a skate dance on stage, I said aloud to my hubby, “Will she be able to balance.” What was actually an innocent expression from my end got transferred to my daughter and she started getting apprehensive of the same. Confidence and apprehensions are linked. A child at any age is quite excited and wants to win on stage but at the same time as they grow they understand the finer parts of a competition. Airing our fears must not be done in front of them.

Owing to lifestyle changes and nuclear family trend, people opt for day care services and the child is apprehensive about going there in the initial days. Most things can be programmed about the child. In the sense, the child can be casually taken to the place and make himself or herself familiar with the environment. Seeing other kids play and be by themselves gets them into an independent mood.

Many kids find crowds unappealing. The do not mingle with a party environment or again they do not like to participate in games. Outdoors is very much important and going to a park, rocking on the swing is very much an effortless experience for a child. Kids love to be encourage and hence simple things by them can be appreciated. Tell them you love them and yet they need to do a particular thing alone.

After several practice sessions and repetitions, a child refuses to go on stage. This could be a tint of stage fear or a general attitude that stems from a mood swing. Prepare the child well and if possible draw a picture of the event. Kids relate very well to pictorial representations. Hence I drew the stage show performance of the skate dance and my daughter is very much excited about the same. Actually they just need to know that their care givers or parents are watching and cheering them.

Building Self-Confidence in Children

One of the most important virtues in a human being is self-confidence. Not just for a child, it is an absolute must for adults also. Without the ample dosage of self-confidence, it is hard to make it big in any sphere of life. Self-confidence brings happiness and enhanced self-esteem. Parents must strive to develop this all important trait in the kid from an early age only. Encourage your child for every little thing often ignored by people. Give them the confidence that they can carry anything and can do anything. Little gestures and small words play a major role in deciding the future of the child. Celebrating his success, a pat on the back, a kiss on the forehead or a warm hug for small works well done will do a world of good to your child’s confidence.

So how should parents approach this task of enhancing self-confidence in kids? Actually, these are very simple and yet effective ideas. Like, by just being consistent, warm and caring, you would be doing a world of good to your child’s confidence. Start the process from an early age only. A child will make your image in his mind from the way you behave with him. It will be deeply ingrained in his psyche. It has been found that children with special bonding with the parents have higher chances of being more self-confident. So have that bonding with the kid as this will make him more secure.

Discipline is a key word here. If the mistake of child is avoidable one then ignore it else punished. While punishing make it clear that it is their behaviour that caused them this punishment and not that they are inherently bad. Whenever a child behaves well, praise him or reward him. This will make him aware of what causes him rewards and what brings punishments.

Kid’s Closet

Managing a kid’s closet is no easy deal. It is often in a messy condition. How many times, you have looked at a kid’s closet and wondered whether a storm just passed through it? Well, that is the usual condition of a kid’s closet. A child does not really fancy the idea of cleaning the closet and arranging the things. Imagine, how would he be acting while going through piles of cloths and deciding what to wear? If you are tied of such problems, you better find some ways to remind your child about the importance of keeping closet neat and organized.

Start cleaning the closet with kid’s help. Ask them to take out everything from the closet and arranging them in categories like toys, sports equipment, costumes, blankets, dirty laundry, shoes and books etc. Ask child to decide what should go back into the closet. It is always better to keep clothes and toys separately. Parents can also put some bins or baskets in the shelf for the purpose of organizing socks, pyjamas or belts. Baby hangers are other useful items in kid’s closet.

If you are troubled by scattered shoes then use a shoe organizer in the room. Keep shoes out of the closet or you can also go for over the door rack. You can also keep the shoe organizer in the entryway so that dirty shoes don’t go all over the house. One more useful option is to have a laundry basket or bin that can be kept under the shelf. Make organizing process of the closet a fun thing so that you and kids both should be able to enjoy it.

Activity classes

Kinder garten kids are a bundle of energy. Often parents feel that the child is unable to sit in a place or is constantly upbeat about something. This is the excess energy that is stored in their body which is waiting to be channelsied. Tapping the potential or honing a skill requires to be done by parents. Ideally the right time should be from the age of four onwards.

School going kids are generally independent about their toilet habits and are also able to communicate their apprehensions. Introduce them to a skill like drawing or coloring class. The intention is not to make an artist of the child but to allow him or her to access information and understand learning by a process. The expert guidance of the teacher helps them to focus and improve their skill.

For over active kids there are many sports associations and social clubs that coach young children in sports. Understand your child’s physical attributes and coping skills. Initially this seems a chore in initiating the child to go on to do a sport. Children often show lack of interest or a ‘tummy ache’ if they are reluctant. Compulsively nothing can be done but show them pictures of the sport like skating or football and then will slowly start taking interest in the same.

The biggest part about activity class and other things is that the parent must be able to strike a balance about the same. Wandering freely in a park or going for a birthday party is equally important for a child’s growth. Urban areas also have the restriction of city life demands which gets mundane. I often invite my child’s friends over for a clay molding activity which also helps us moms bond together.
